A Verbier private transfer is a pre-booked, door-to-door chauffeur journey from an airport — most often Geneva, about two hours away — to a chalet or hotel in Verbier, the Valais resort at the heart of the 4 Vallées. Gstaad, in the Bernese Oberland, is served by the same Swiss gateways and by Bern. Polidori Exclusive Services has operated private chauffeur transport since 1966, and its cross-border winter programme connects both resorts with Swiss airports and with northern Italy.
This guide covers the gateway airports and drive times, the routes from Italy, the character of each resort and the most common combinations. It is part of the wider Luxury Ski Resort Transfers guide covering resorts across Italy, Switzerland, France and Austria.
Definition
What Is a Verbier or Gstaad Private Transfer?
It is an exclusive journey in a private vehicle with a professional chauffeur, reserved for one traveller or group, from an airport, railway station or city hotel directly to the accommodation in Verbier or Gstaad. Departure follows the actual landing time, there are no intermediate drop-offs, and the vehicle is chosen for the exact number of passengers, suitcases and ski or snowboard bags.
Verbier sits at about 1,500 metres on a south-facing terrace in the municipality of Val de Bagnes, canton of Valais. Its ski area reaches Mont Fort at 3,330 metres, and the resort hosts the Xtreme Verbier, the final of the Freeride World Tour. Gstaad, at about 1,050 metres in the municipality of Saanen, canton of Bern, is known for its chalet village, for Glacier 3000 and for winter events such as the Sommets Musicaux classical series and the New Year Music Festival.

|---|---|---|---|
| Geneva (GVA) | ~2 hours | ~2 hours · 160 km | Most international flights |
| Sion (SIR) | ~1 hour | — | Private aviation and limited flights |

Verbier has a single access road, which climbs from Le Châble in the Val de Bagnes; a cable car also links Le Châble with the resort. Drive times assume normal winter conditions and can lengthen with snowfall and Saturday changeover traffic. Travellers flying privately often use Sion for Verbier, while Gstaad has its own small airfield at Saanen used by light aircraft and helicopters.
Route
Reaching Verbier and Gstaad from Italy
From the Aosta Valley, the road through the Great St Bernard tunnel leads to Martigny and the Val de Bagnes, making Verbier about 1 hour 45 minutes from Courmayeur. From Milan Malpensa, the route crosses the Simplon Pass to Brig and follows the Rhône valley to Martigny — the same corridor used for Zermatt. Switzerland is in the Schengen area but outside the EU customs union, so customs checks are possible and passengers should carry a passport or valid identity document; vehicles used on Swiss routes carry the Swiss motorway vignette.
Planning
What to Prepare Before You Book
- Flight number and arrival time, or the private aviation handler for arrivals at Sion, Bern or Saanen.
- The exact chalet or hotel address, since many chalets lie outside the village centres.
- Number of passengers, suitcases and ski or snowboard bags.
- Passports or identity documents for every passenger on cross-border transfers.
- Any event dates — Xtreme Verbier, Sommets Musicaux or the New Year festival — that affect timing.
Audience
Who This Service Is For
Gulf and UAE Families
Both resorts are established winter destinations for families from the Gulf region, who often travel with several generations, household staff and a large volume of luggage. The vehicle sizing, discretion and convoy coordination described on the VIP Chauffeur Italy for UAE and Gulf Travellers page apply in full.
Freeriders and Experienced Skiers
Verbier's off-piste terrain and freeride heritage attract experienced skiers travelling with specialist equipment, which stays in the vehicle from the airport to the chalet.
Private Jet Travellers
Travellers flying privately are met at the business aviation terminal with the vehicle ready for immediate departure. Principals requiring a security-trained driver can add the arrangements on the VIP Security and Close Protection Italy page.
Groups and Corporate Ski Weeks
Groups arriving together are moved in coordinated vehicles, with a dedicated equipment vehicle where needed, following the approach on the Luxury Group Transport Italy page.
Regulations
Winter Driving in Switzerland
In Switzerland, vehicles must be equipped for the winter conditions they will meet, and snow chains become mandatory where indicated by signage. On the Italian side, winter tyres or snow chains on board are required on designated roads, generally from 15 November to 15 April. Transfers are planned with the winter equipment required in both countries, and road and pass conditions are checked before departure.

Practicalities
Vehicles, Ski Equipment and Timing
An executive sedan suits a couple with suitcases only; an SUV or van is usually needed once ski or snowboard bags are added; and a luxury minibus or a second vehicle is arranged for larger families and groups. The vehicle categories are described on the fleet page.
Christmas, New Year and the February school holidays are the busiest periods, and transfers for these dates are best booked several weeks in advance. Early departures for return flights are planned with an extra margin in case of overnight snowfall.
