An Alta Badia private transfer is a pre-booked, door-to-door chauffeur journey from an airport — most often Bolzano, about 100 km away, Innsbruck or Venice — to a hotel or chalet in the villages of Alta Badia, such as Corvara, Colfosco, San Cassiano or La Villa. Neighbouring Val Gardena, with Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva, lies on the other side of the Sella massif and is served by the same airports. Polidori Exclusive Services has operated private chauffeur transport since 1966, and these two Ladin valleys are among the most requested Dolomites destinations in its winter programme.
This guide covers the gateway airports and drive times, the Sella Ronda and Dolomiti Superski, World Cup race weekends and the most common combinations with other resorts. It is part of the wider Luxury Ski Resort Transfers guide covering resorts across Italy, Switzerland, France and Austria.
Definition
What Is an Alta Badia or Val Gardena Private Transfer?
It is an exclusive journey in a private vehicle with a professional chauffeur, reserved for one traveller or group, from an airport, railway station or city hotel directly to the accommodation in Alta Badia or Val Gardena. Both valleys are spread across several villages at different altitudes, so a private transfer is planned to the exact address rather than to a central drop-off point, with luggage and ski equipment staying in the same vehicle throughout.
Alta Badia and Val Gardena are two of the five valleys where most residents speak Ladin, alongside Italian and German. Alta Badia's ski area runs from about 1,324 metres at Pedraces to 2,550 metres on the Sella group, and both valleys belong to Dolomiti Superski, which links about 1,246 km of runs and 450 lifts on a single ski pass.
Gateways
Which Airport to Fly Into
| Airport | Distance to Alta Badia | Approx. Drive Time | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bolzano (BZO) | ~100 km | ~1h30 | The closest airport; limited flights and private aviation |
| Innsbruck (INN) | ~130 km | ~1h45 | Winter flights via Austria |
| Treviso (TSF) | ~180 km | ~2h30 | European flights |
| Venice Marco Polo (VCE) | ~200 km | ~2h45 | Long-haul and Gulf arrivals |
| Verona (VRN) | ~213 km | ~2h45 | European and charter flights |
| Munich (MUC) | ~330 km | ~4 hours | Long-haul connections via Germany |
Val Gardena is generally closer to Bolzano and the Brenner motorway than Alta Badia, so transfers there are usually somewhat shorter. Drive times assume normal winter conditions; snowfall on the valley roads and holiday-weekend traffic can add significantly to them. Venice arrivals are described on the Venice airport private transfer page.
Ski Area
The Sella Ronda and World Cup Racing
The Sella Ronda circles the Sella massif over four passes — Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena — linking Alta Badia, Val Gardena, Val di Fassa and Arabba. Completing the circuit can take up to six hours depending on weather and ability, so skiers usually start before 10 am. A private driver can collect a group at the end of the day wherever they finish, rather than at the starting village.
Both valleys host Alpine Ski World Cup races each December: the Gran Risa in La Villa, one of the most demanding giant slalom courses on the circuit, and the Saslong downhill in Val Gardena, held almost every year since 1969. Race weekends concentrate arrivals and are best booked well in advance.
Planning
What to Prepare Before You Book
- Flight number and arrival time, or the private aviation handler for arrivals at Bolzano or Innsbruck.
- The exact village and address, since Alta Badia and Val Gardena each span several villages.
- Number of passengers, suitcases and ski or snowboard bags.
- Child seats, if travelling with younger skiers.
- Any second resort or city stay — Cortina, Madonna di Campiglio, Venice or Tyrol — during the trip.
Audience
Who This Service Is For
Skiers Touring the Dolomites
The Sella Ronda and the wider Dolomiti Superski network make these valleys ideal for skiers who want a different route each day. Day transfers between valleys extend the range beyond what the lifts alone allow.
Food and Wine Travellers
Alta Badia is known for its high-level mountain gastronomy, and evening transfers to restaurants in other villages remove any concern about mountain driving after dinner.
Families and Gulf Travellers
Families travelling with several generations and substantial luggage benefit from the vehicle sizing and discretion described on the VIP Chauffeur Italy for UAE and Gulf Travellers page, and larger groups can be moved in coordinated vehicles following the Luxury Group Transport Italy approach.
Regulations
Winter Roads in South Tyrol
In Italy, winter tyres or snow chains on board are required on roads designated by signage during the winter period, which generally runs from 15 November to 15 April. High passes such as the Gardena and Campolongo passes may close temporarily after heavy snowfall. Transfers from Innsbruck also cross Austria, where winter tyres are required from 1 November to 15 April whenever roads are wintry and a motorway vignette is needed. Every transfer is planned with the required equipment, and road conditions are checked before departure.
Connections

Practicalities
Vehicles, Ski Equipment and Timing
An executive sedan suits a couple with suitcases only; an SUV or van is usually needed once ski or snowboard bags are added; and a luxury minibus or a second vehicle is arranged for larger families and groups. The vehicle categories are described on the fleet page.
Christmas, New Year, the December World Cup weekends and the February school holidays are the busiest periods, and transfers for these dates are best booked several weeks in advance.
